On 10th Jan, 2019, Three Leaching Processes in Chemical Beneficiation


In the process of material leaching, there are three kinds of leaching processes according to the movement direction of leached material and leaching reagent.


1. Downstream leaching

When the flow direction of leached material and leaching reagent is the same, the leaching solution with higher content can be obtained by downstream leaching, and the consumption of leaching reagent is lower, but the leaching speed is slower and the leaching time is longer to obtain higher leaching rate.

2.Cross-flow leaching

The leached materials were leached by several new leaching reagents. The leaching solution obtained from each leaching process is sent to subsequent operations. The leaching speed of cross-flow leaching is faster. The leaching time is shorter and the leaching string is higher. But the volume of leaching solution is larger. Remaining reagent concentration in leaching solution is high, so reagent consumption is high.

3. Countercurrent leaching

When the leached material and leaching reagent move in opposite direction, that is, after several leachings, the diluted material contacts with the new leaching solution, while the original leached material contacts with the old leaching solution. Countercurrent leaching can obtain a higher content of leaching solution, which can make full use of the remaining reagents in the leaching solution. Therefore, the leaching agent consumption is low, but the leaching speed is lower than the cross-flow speed, and more leaching stages are needed to obtain higher leaching rate.

heap leaching

Leaching in leachate tank can adopt downstream, cross-flow or countercurrent leaching process; heap leaching and in-situ leaching generally adopt downstream circulation leaching process, and continuous stirring leaching generally adopt downstream leaching process. If cross-flow or counter-flow leaching is to be used, solid-liquid separation operation should be added into all levels. Stirring leaching in intermittent operation is generally parallel-flow leaching, but cross-flow or counter-flow leaching process can also be used. But after each leaching, solid-liquid separation is needed, which is complicated. Less application in production.
